Laveo DF1045 Portable Toilet

Welcome to your Laveo DF1045 Portable Toilet User Manual. This comprehensive guide will walk you through every aspect of your new waterless toilet system, from initial setup to daily use and maintenance.

Quick Start

New to your Laveo? Start with the Getting Ready section, then move to How to Use.

Precautions

Do Not Stand on the Laveo

Standing on the Laveo may cause damage or personal injury.

Never Use for Unintended Purposes

Only use the Laveo for its designed purpose as a portable toilet.

Use Approved Power Sources Only

Using alternate power sources may damage the unit and void the warranty.

Water Resistant, Not Waterproof

Do not store or install the Laveo in unprotected areas where water may pool.

Supervise Children

Always supervise children when using the Laveo.

Avoid Sharp Objects

Do not put sharp objects such as broken glass into the Laveo as it may puncture the containment material.

Setup

Before using your Laveo, familiarise yourself with its key components. This section provides an overview of the various parts that make your toilet work.

Front View Components

Flush Button

Activates the flush cycle with a single press and release. The button becomes inactive during the flush cycle to prevent accidental double flushing.

Toilet Seat

A standard round seat offering comfort and the option for customisation to suit your style.

Trim Top

Located beneath the toilet seat, this trim piece conceals the refill cartridge and can be easily removed without tools.

Toilet Base

Constructed from durable, high-impact plastic and designed for longevity. Can be cleaned with your preferred cleaning agent.

Rear View Components

Battery Compartment

Located at the bottom of the Laveo, designed for easy access without requiring tools.

Charge Cable

Stored in the Battery Compartment. Connect to the supplied Australian charger only when recharging. Disconnect after charging is complete to prevent battery damage.

Power Inlet

Connection point for the removable 12V battery and any approved alternative power source. Connect alternative power only through the rear Power Inlet—never directly to the circuit board.

Rear Panel

Covers the Printed Circuit Board. Do not remove unless instructed by Dry Flush Customer Support. Contains the product label and serial number.

Getting Your Laveo Ready for Use

Your Laveo comes fully equipped and almost ready to use out of the box. However, due to shipping regulations, please perform these initial setup steps.

Disconnect the toilet power cable before handling internal parts. Reconnect it only after the cartridge, panel and Trim Top are properly seated.

1

Remove the Trim Top

Lift up the toilet seat and remove the Trim Top beneath it. The Trim Top is available in White and Black Editions.

2

Seat the Octagon Container

Carefully remove the Refill Cartridge and ensure the Octagon Container is sitting properly on the Square Key. Turn the container clockwise gently—you should feel resistance and hear a motor sound. If not, lift the container 2-5cm, place it back down, and turn clockwise until seated.

3

Prepare the Bagging Material

Ensure the black plastic octagon panel is fully seated at the bottom of the container. Gently push the barrier material to form a "bowl" shape.

4

Connect Power

Plug the Power Cable into the Power Inlet located at the rear of the unit.

Laveo Placement

The Laveo is highly portable and can be placed on any level surface, indoors or outdoors. Remember that your Laveo is water resistant but not waterproof. Do not place it where water may pool.

For enhanced stability, consider the optional floor mounting kit or Comfort Lift Package available at www.dryflush.com.au.

Electrical Connections

Understanding your Laveo's electrical system ensures safe and reliable operation.

Power Inlet

This is where the Laveo receives power from the supplied removable battery or an approved alternative power source. Connect any alternative power source through the rear Power Inlet only—never directly to the circuit board. Both use a round Barrel Style connector, similar to laptop power cables.

⚠️ WARNING

Never plug in an AC Adapter rated above 12 Volts and 5 Amps. Doing so could damage your Laveo and pose a fire risk.

Charge Cable

Connect your Battery Charger here when the battery needs recharging. The Australian battery is a removable 12V 7Ah sealed lead-acid battery and provides approximately 300 flushes per charge, depending on conditions and use.

Charging Recommendations: Clearly disconnect the battery power cable from the toilet before charging. Use the supplied Australian charger only. The red light indicates charging and the green light indicates charged; charging typically takes 1–2 hours. Follow the charger instructions, disconnect the charger when charging is complete, then reconnect the battery power cable to the toilet. The charger is not an operating power adaptor. Recharge as needed based on use and battery condition, and check the charge before an extended trip or after storage.

Fuse

The Fuse Body houses a 7.5 Amp ATO/ATC style fuse. If your Laveo suddenly stops working, a blown fuse is a likely cause.

⚠️ WARNING: Replace the fuse only with the same type and rating: a 7.5 Amp ATO/ATC style fuse. Never use a higher-rated fuse, as this could damage your Laveo or cause a fire.

Installing the Refill

Disconnect the toilet power cable before handling internal parts. Reconnect it only after the cartridge, panel and Trim Top are properly seated.

Watch the video above to see the complete refill installation process in action.

1

Remove the Trim Top

Raise the toilet seat and lift off the Trim Top piece. The Trim Top is available in White and Black Editions.

2

Prepare the Container

Remove the Octagon Container and place the black disposal liner into it. Roll the top edge down around the rim like a rubbish bin. Secure with the large rubber band provided. Return the lined octagonal container to the toilet seated on its square drive key before inserting the refill panel.

3

Insert the Bagging Material

Pull out the minimum amount of bagging material necessary to insert the 8-sided panel into the bottom of the liner.

4

Install the Cartridge

Place the Refill Cartridge onto the round opening of the Base, aligning the cut-outs towards the rear. Replace the Trim Top piece.

5

Form the Bowl

Form the bag into a bowl shape using your hands, or press the black flush button to initiate a flush. Your Laveo is now ready for use.

Note: The Refill Cartridge is manufactured with a Red Line indicator. When this line becomes visible, replace the cartridge after the current use. The red line is a warning to replace the cartridge; it does not prove that no liner remains.

Removing Waste and Empty Cartridge

1

Remove the Trim Top

Lift the toilet seat and remove the underlying Trim Top piece.

2

Separate the Cartridge Rim

Lift up the cartridge rim and pull or cut the bag away from the bottom. Release the sealed waste and liner into the suitable general-waste bag below. Current Australian refill rims are biodegradable bagasse; do not place them in plastics recycling. Older clean plastic rims should only be recycled where accepted by local recycling rules.

3

Remove the Garbage Bag

Pull up the sides of the black plastic garbage bag containing the silver Mylar bag and its contents out of the toilet base.

4

Seal the Waste

Grab the edge of the Refill Cartridge and lift it to expose the lined Octagon Container. Pull the liner up and over the cartridge rim.

5

Dispose Responsibly

Using the supplied bag twist tie, twist and seal the black liner bag. Dispose of the sealed waste and liner in suitable general waste in accordance with local rules.

Please dispose of waste responsibly. Ensure the black plastic bag is properly sealed and closed. Help us maintain a positive reputation by discarding waste in a manner that never causes discomfort to others.

How to Use Your Laveo

Your Laveo works similarly to a conventional porcelain toilet. After use, simply press the Flush Button to initiate a 16-second cycle that twists and compacts waste, creating a fresh "bowl" ready for the next use.

Flush Capacity

Your Laveo has sufficient capacity for up to 15 flushes per cartridge, depending on volume, paper and individual habits. A use is one toilet visit; a flush is one sealing cycle. The container has finite volume, so never save multiple bowel movements before flushing.

Important: One press of the flush button starts one sealing cycle. Multiple urine visits with Pee Powder can share one flush, but the container has finite capacity. Flush after a bowel movement, do not save multiple bowel movements, and flush sooner if the bowl is becoming full.

Using Pee Powder

Add about half a teaspoon of Pee Powder per pee, either before or after urinating, and allow 2–3 minutes for it to gel. This can allow up to 3 urine-only visits before flushing, or up to 3 urine visits followed by 1 bowel movement and then an immediate flush: up to 4 uses per flush and up to 60 uses per cartridge, depending on volume, paper and individual habits. Never save multiple bowel movements. Pee Powder is intended to help manage urine and is not a substitute for flushing after a bowel movement.

Troubleshooting Guide

Toilet does not flush - no power

  • Ensure that your Battery is fully charged.
  • Ensure that the Power Cable is securely plugged into the Power Inlet.
  • Remove the Battery and check that the Battery Cable connections are connected securely.
  • Check that the Fuse is intact.

Toilet runs very slowly

  • Charge the Battery.

Material rises above seat when flushing

  • Add a 350ml (12oz) cup of water to your next flush.

Liquid leaked into the next bowl

  • Much like a porcelain toilet, sometimes there can be a little left over in the next bowl.
  • Our Pee Powder greatly reduces the chance of this happening by solidifying the urine before the next flush.
  • Visit www.dryflush.com.au to learn more about Pee Powder.
