Laveo DryFlush vs LooSeal Elite

Looking at a LooSeal Elite toilet for your caravan, boat or off-grid setup? Laveo DryFlush is another waterless option. Laveo mechanically twists a liner to contain waste; the Elite heat seals separate bags. Compare the complete setup, seating, power and consumables before choosing.

Prepared by DryFlush Australia, the Australian Laveo distributor. This comparison uses published specifications and local prices; it is not an independent side-by-side test.

Seat height is the seating surface height, not overall toilet height. The 430 mm Laveo measurement was confirmed by DryFlush Australia on 24 October 2026. Published endurance figures are not results from identical test conditions. Cycle times cover the automatic mechanism after activation, not the duration of a toilet visit.

The Elite product page and manual are used for model-specific specifications. Some retailer copy lists a 90-second seal; the current Australian Elite page says 2–3 minutes. Confirm the supplied version before purchase. Design, toilet manufacture and liner manufacture are separate facts; this page does not infer manufacturing country from a brand’s design claims.

A use, a flush and a sealed bag are different measures

Laveo: one powered flush twists a section of liner around waste. A cartridge provides up to 15 powered flushes. With Pee Powder used as directed, up to three urine-only visits followed by one bowel movement and an immediate flush can allow up to four uses per flush, or up to 60 uses per cartridge. Flush after every bowel movement and sooner if needed. Waste volume, paper and habits affect actual yield.

LooSeal Elite: the advertised 11-metre roll provides around 35 standard bags or up to 70 small bags. A seal produces an individual bag, and bag length affects roll yield. LooSeal’s FAQ allows multiple visits before sealing, subject to the fill line and liquid/weight limits. Follow the Elite instructions; do not assume every visit requires a new bag or apply Laveo’s four-use example to the Elite.

Pee Powder and LooSeal Super Absorber are optional for operation; each supplier recommends its absorbent for relevant liquid-use conditions. Read LooSeal’s usage guidance and the Australian Laveo manual.

For the Elite, confirm the total delivered price with your chosen dealer and postcode. The checked seller advertises free shipping over A$200, but its two shipping pages list different exclusions. A universal “LooSeal freight costs extra” claim is not confirmed. Check whether the toilet or any promotional bundle qualifies before ordering. Seller delivery policy · Seller exclusions.

Refill cost per use means per toilet visit. These examples use different stated usage scenarios, not a matched performance test. Laveo uses its maximum Pee Powder yield; the Elite example assumes one visit per bag. All amounts are AUD.

Laveo: current 15-pack price ÷ 900 maximum uses; the owner example applies the approved 20% refill discount. This assumes Pee Powder, up to three urine-only visits followed by one bowel movement and an immediate flush, and up to 60 uses per cartridge. Actual yield varies; flush after every bowel movement and sooner if needed.

Elite: A$24.99 ÷ 35 standard or 70 small bags, assuming one visit per bag. LooSeal’s Australian FAQ permits multiple visits before sealing within its limits, which can reduce its cost per visit. No fixed shared-visit yield is established here. These figures do not establish that either toilet is always cheaper per use. Absorbents, freight, energy, installation and servicing are excluded.

Eligible Laveo owners can apply for 20% off refill packs. Approval and conditions apply. Shop Laveo refills or check the Elite liner price.

Portable when you need it. Securely mounted when you prefer.

Laveo is fully portable and can also be securely mounted in a suitable caravan, boat or other installation. Choose the optional Floor Mounting Kit or Wall Mount Kit to suit the mounting surface and access. Both allow the toilet to be released for removal. Floor mounting is generally recommended where suitable; the wall option is useful where floor mounting is impractical.

Choose battery, DC or AC power

Use the included rechargeable battery for portable operation, or run the toilet from a suitable 12V DC supply with the optional DC Power Cable. For mains-powered use instead of the battery, choose the optional AC Power Adaptor. The AC adaptor is an operating power supply, separate from the battery charger. Its product listing specifies a US-to-AU plug adaptor; check the supplied plug arrangement before use.

Mounting kits and alternative power accessories are sold separately. Check the product instructions and suitability for your installation. Related supplies: replacement battery, battery charger, Pee Powder and refill cartridges.

Which toilet fits the way you use it?

Consider Laveo when…

  • You want a removable battery and portable use between suitable locations.
  • The higher published user-weight limit matters.
  • You prefer mechanical containment without heat sealing and a shorter published cycle.
  • You value Australian-made refill bags, local product guidance and available replacement parts.

Allow for its greater carrying weight and body size, suitable securing for travel and ongoing cartridge costs.

Consider LooSeal Elite when…

  • You want a floor-mounted caravan or boat installation with a swivel head.
  • Its narrower, shorter body and lower published weight suit the space.
  • You prefer removing individual sealed bags.
  • Its liner-roll format suits your usage and refill budget.

Allow for the stated sealing time, electrical connection, liner and absorbent supply, and the 150 kg user limit. Ask an installer about access and retrofit finishing.

Cleaning, disposal and long-term ownership

Both systems need power, consumables, routine cleaning and a suitable waste-disposal route. Follow the relevant manual. Do not put sharps in either toilet.

LooSeal biodegradable liners: used-bag life is different from roll storage

LooSeal says its biodegradable bags remain odour-proof and leak-proof for up to two weeks and describes breakdown after four weeks of use. This is a used-bag limitation, not a two-week expiry for an entire unused roll. Plan timely waste disposal; do not assume indefinite storage of filled bags.

LooSeal states an indefinite shelf life while vacuum-packed. Its Australian distributor separately says unpacked film remains leak-proof for up to six months. These are different storage and use conditions. The ToMTuR manual recommends replacing opened liner within three months even if not used up; confirm the Australian liner instructions. Read LooSeal’s liner guidance and the distributor’s storage guidance.

Laveo’s Mylar liner is not biodegradable. Its Australian-made refill bags have bagasse rims; this does not make a used refill compostable. Neither system’s waste belongs in the environment, garden compost or an organics bin. Use an approved general-waste route where local and site rules permit.

For a wet-room installation, confirm the exact model’s rating and protection instructions. The LooSeal homepage and Elite documents use different water-resistance wording; seek model-specific confirmation.

Additional manual check: the ToMTuR European Elite manual v1.1 (printed pp. 32, 39–40) recommends replacing opened liner within three months, even if not used up. It describes up to about two weeks of odour containment at room temperature, depending on conditions and contents, with liquid containment lasting several weeks. It also lists freestanding use despite providing four-point fixing instructions. Australian marketing describes permanent installation. Confirm which instructions and liner apply to the unit supplied locally.

Biodegradable bags, hygiene and Australian disposal rules

Biodegradable does not mean banned, disinfected or suitable for disposal anywhere. NSW National Parks recommends biodegradable bags for carrying toilet waste out of Kosciuszko’s backcountry, with disposal in rubbish bins in resort areas or outside the park. This is location-specific guidance, not approval for every toilet or waste service. Read NSW National Parks guidance.

Check the campsite as well as the bin. Queensland Parks’ Teewah Beach guidance requires a sealed holding tank suitable for its disposal facilities and excludes bag-style toilets. Do not assume either Laveo or Elite meets that requirement without confirmation from the park. Check the Cooloola / Teewah rules.

Why liner durability matters

Laveo uses a non-biodegradable Mylar barrier liner to contain waste and odours. It is not designed to biodegrade during use. That is a material distinction, not a guarantee of permanent containment, zero leakage or no environmental impact. Correct installation, handling, securely closing the outer collection bag and prompt, permitted disposal remain essential. See the Laveo manufacturer’s material guidance.

LooSeal’s biodegradable liner has the storage and used-bag limits described above. Bag breakdown is not the same as sanitising human waste. Treat the contents of either system as untreated human waste. Keep bags intact and securely closed, avoid contact with waste and wash hands after handling. A biodegradable label does not make used toilet bags suitable for garden compost, FOGO, recycling, burial or dumping.

Confirm acceptance of sealed portable-toilet waste with the local council or receiving waste operator before travel, especially for commercial or healthcare use. Use an approved general-waste route only where accepted. The City of Swan, for example, excludes human-waste nappies from FOGO even when labelled biodegradable or compostable.

Laveo and LooSeal Elite questions

Is Laveo DryFlush an alternative to LooSeal Elite?

Yes. Both provide waterless toilet access without a liquid cassette. Laveo uses powered twist containment and a removable battery; the Elite heat seals individual bags and is marketed in Australia for floor-mounted installations. Choose by fit, power, handling and ongoing costs.

Does LooSeal Elite need to seal after every visit?

No. LooSeal’s FAQ permits multiple visits before sealing within its fill-line and liquid/weight limits. Its bag count per roll is not a fixed number of toilet visits. Follow the current Elite manual for the specific use.

How many uses does a Laveo refill provide?

Up to 15 powered flushes, or up to 60 uses with Pee Powder and the stated maximum-use sequence: up to three urine-only visits, then one bowel movement and an immediate flush. Flush after every bowel movement and sooner if needed. Actual yield varies.

Which toilet costs less to run?

The per-use table gives scenarios, not a universal winner. Laveo’s example uses its maximum Pee Powder yield; the Elite example assumes one visit per bag. Shared visits, waste volume, bag length, absorbents, delivery and energy change actual per-use costs.

Can either replace my caravan cassette toilet?

Potentially. Check dimensions, 430 mm Laveo or 454 mm published Elite seat height, access, securing, power and the old cassette opening. Laveo offers optional floor and wall mounting kits. Suitability depends on the actual installation and user needs.

Is LooSeal Elite the same as LooSeal Evo?

No. LooSeal markets Elite for permanent installation and Evo as its portable model. This page compares the Elite. Do not transfer Evo dimensions, battery or supplied-charger details to Elite.

Do LooSeal biodegradable liner rolls expire after two weeks?

No. LooSeal’s two-week figure concerns sealed waste-bag containment. ToMTuR’s European manual recommends replacing opened liner within three months even if unused, and says deterioration and leaks begin by six months after opening. These are different from filled-bag storage limits. Confirm the instructions for the liner supplied in Australia.

How often does LooSeal Elite need recharging?

LooSeal rates Elite for up to 100 sealing cycles per charge. External power charges its built-in battery rather than bypassing it, according to the ToMTuR manual. The Australian FAQ recommends leaving it connected for top-ups in sleep mode. Cycles are not necessarily toilet visits.

Is LooSeal Elite fully portable?

The Australian Elite is marketed for permanent installation, with floor mounting points and a charging connection. The ToMTuR European manual also lists freestanding use. Confirm the Australian supplier’s securing and use requirements; do not assume the Elite cannot be moved. Evo is LooSeal’s explicitly portable model.

Is delivery included in the comparison prices?

The Laveo toilet offer includes standard delivery Australia-wide. Confirm the Elite’s delivered total with your dealer and postcode: the checked seller advertises free shipping over A$200, while its shipping pages give differing exclusions. Freight cannot be assumed either included or extra for every Elite order.

Can Laveo be securely mounted as well as used portably?

Yes. Laveo is fully portable and can also be secured with the optional Floor Mounting Kit or Wall Mount Kit. Both allow removal when needed. Select an appropriate mounting surface and follow the kit instructions.

Can Laveo run on AC or DC power instead of its battery?

Yes. Optional accessories provide suitable 12V DC power through the DC Power Cable, or mains-powered operation through the AC Power Adaptor. These are alternatives to the included battery. The AC adaptor is separate from the battery charger; check its plug-adaptor requirements.

Are biodegradable toilet-waste bags banned in Australia?

The reviewed guidance does not establish a nationwide ban. NSW National Parks recommends biodegradable bags for carrying toilet waste out of Kosciuszko’s backcountry. Other sites restrict bag-style toilets. Check site rules and receiving waste-service acceptance for either toilet; a biodegradable label is not blanket disposal permission.

Does Laveo’s non-biodegradable liner permanently seal or disinfect waste?

Laveo’s Mylar barrier liner contains waste and odours and is not designed to biodegrade during use. This is not a guarantee of permanent containment or disinfection. Follow the manual, securely close the outer collection bag, prevent damage and arrange prompt disposal through a service that accepts it.
